The CDC has extended its Order protecting people from eviction for nonpayment of rent through July 31st. It has said this is the last extension of these protections.
Because the protections expire on July 31, we have stopped allowing users to generate and send a copy of the CDC Declaration to their landlords.
Instead, we encourage you to contact your local legal aid organization. (Okay, actually we're 🙏🏻begging you. 🙏🏻)
Your local legal aid organization will be best equipped to tell you how to:
1️⃣ apply for rental assistance,
2️⃣ how to get legal assistance, and
3️⃣ how to protect yourself from eviction.
You can find your local legal aid organization anywhere in the nation here. If you have specific questions or problems, it's super important to get legal help from lawyers near you.
Additionally, if you want to connect with housing justice movement in your area, a good place to start is the Right to the City Alliance. Here's a nationwide map of member organizations.
In case you need it, here is a copy of the Declaration. (And here are translations of the Declaration in 20 different languages.
A nonprofit called the Kentucky Equal Justice Center created HomerenterDeclaration.org. We occasionally send out email updates about the eviction crisis, opportunities for action, and our work. If you'd like to receive those updates, you can fill out the info below. No pressure. We get it. You can also follow us on Twitter, Facebook (ugh!), and Instagram.
The most important thing you can do is to connect with your local legal aid organization. Find it now.
